Really neat caterpillar

Unknown caterpillar with plant debris

I have seen this lepidoptera larva mostly on gray-headed cone flower and black-eyed susan flowers. It is mostly just a small brown non-descript caterpillar, but it covers itself with debris from flowers--I have never seen them take the debris, but I think some of it might be from cup plant. At least it seems to match.

When I have seen these caterpillars, they always seem to move slowly or not at all.

I have no idea what the adult looks like.

I find it fascinating to see the different strategies that animals use to survive. This one is easy to overlook on the flowers and plants.

It might be possible that an insect attempting to capture this caterpillar would get a claw full of plant instead of insect.

I really like this one!
