I don't know what this is, beyond the fact that it is a fly. It looks similar to flies that are called "dance flies", but it
is not the same as what I have seen in some guide books. My own term for this fly is the "feather-legged fly",
because its legs look like feathers. What is the function of that feature? I don't know. My guess is that it might
have something to do with gathering pollen. Or maybe not. If it is gathering pollen, how could it eat the pollen?
The fly has a long beak for a mouth.
This fly has obviously picked up a lot of pollen from the black-eyed susan. Does that make it a pollinator of this flower? I don't know. I did not get the impression that this fly is rare, but I did not see it all that often.
